Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry Distributes 315,000 Pounds of Food Annually, Announces Transition to Independent Nonprofit

Press Release, Blacksburg, VA — As it approaches its 40th anniversary in 2027, the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry is marking a major milestone—distributing more than 315,000 pounds of food annually—while announcing a significant step forward in its organizational evolution. Following more than a decade of thoughtful planning, the Board of Directors voted to establish the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry, Inc., as an independent, tax-exempt organization.

The Pantry currently serves an average of 370 households and 1,100 individuals each month, reflecting both the growing need in the community and the organization’s expanded capacity to respond.

In recent years, the Pantry has experienced substantial growth, including the move to its current facility—made possible through the generous support of Dr. T. Marshall Hahn—which has enabled increased distribution and improved service delivery.

“This decision represents an important step forward in the evolution of our mission,” said Andrea Muscatello, Director. “Becoming an independent nonprofit positions us to expand our impact and better serve our community in the years ahead.”

The Pantry expressed deep gratitude to New River Community Action for its longstanding partnership and support.

The transition is being guided by the Pantry’s Board of Directors in coordination with legal counsel, ensuring a smooth and well-managed process.

As the organization looks toward the future, it remains grounded in the strong community support that has sustained it for nearly four decades.

“We are incredibly thankful for the generosity and commitment of our community,” said Mike Snyder, Board President. “Distributing over 315,000 pounds of food each year is only possible because of that support, and we look forward to continuing this work together.”
